Game Recap: Softball | | Aaron Lynn

@WSU_SB Drops Doubleheader to Miami

The Miami Redhawks swept Wright State in a Tuesday doubleheader from WSU Softball Field. The Raiders were held scoreless in game one and scored just two runs in the second. Olivia Otani started game two in the circle and pitched well for the Raiders who came up just short.

Game 1

Miami put up three runs in the first with a pair of RBI doubles and a single. Makenna Durieux settled in after the first and retired the Redhawks in the second and third innings without allowing a run. Courtney Viersta recorded five strikeouts in her first six outs against the Raiders. In the fourth, Miami loaded the bases and tallied three more runs pushing their advantage to six runs. Lexie Hilling entered in the sixth and kept the Redhawks offense quiet in the final two innings. Meredith Keel, Lauren Deitrick, and Macy McCall recorded hits, but Viersta got the best of the Raider lineup with an impressive 15 strikeout complete game shutout.

Game 2

Taylor Rathe started in the circle for the Redhawks and, like Viersta, frustrated the Wright State lineup early. Miami took the lead run in the top of the first with a solo home run from Ashton Slone. Olivia Otani settled in nicely after the homer and pitched quick innings in the second and third. Wright State then put two runners on base in the bottom of the third, and Brianna Hutchinson scored them both on an RBI single to right. Otani returned in the fourth and threw a perfect frame capped with a strikeout. In the top of the fifth, Miami took back the lead after the Redhawks loaded the bases. Maddux Hughes took over in the circle and closed out the inning. Miami then added another homerun in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead. The Raiders had one last chance to comeback in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't put any runners on base.

The Raiders will return to action Friday and Saturday at Green Bay for their second Horizon League series matchup of the season.
