@WSU_MBB to face Green Bay in Motor City Madness Semifinal

Raiders will tangle with the Phoenix at 7 PM Monday

The Wright State men's basketball team will continue its quest for a second consecutive NCAA Tournament bid when they play Green Bay Monday night at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit in the Little Caesars Horizon League Tournament semifinals.  Game time is 7:00 PM and will be shown on ESPNU.  Fans can listen to Chris Collins and Jim Brown on Big 106.5 FM/iHeart App.

Wright State
The Raiders, 20-12 overall, have won two straight and 12 of their last 14 games, including a convincing 71-56 decision at home against IUPUI in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Tournament Tuesday night.  Bill Wampler led the way with 18 points as Loudon Love added 13 points and nine rebounds.

Five players from Wright State and head coach Scott Nagy were honored by the Horizon League as the conference announced its annual awards Tuesday.  Nagy was named the Coach of the Year while Love was voted to the First Team, Wampler to the Second Team, Malachi Smith to the Freshman Team and both Parker Ernsthausen and Mark Hughes were selected to the Defensive Team.  Ernsthausen and Wampler were named to the Horizon League Basketball All-Academic Team.

Love leads the Raiders in scoring at 15.5 points per game, followed by Wampler at 14.8 and Cole Gentry at 11.7.  Love also leads the team in rebounding at 8.1 per game, ranking third in the conference.  WSU leads the Horizon league in points allowed, giving up 67.8 points, while Green Bay's offense ranks first at 81.2 points scored per game.

Wright State trails 32-30 in the overall series but holds a 5-2 advantage against the Phoenix since Coach Nagy took over as head coach.  The teams split the two games this season, with the Raiders winning 87-75 at the Nutter Center on January 26, and the Phoenix winning 70-67 at the Resch Center on February 28.  Over the two games vs the Phoenix this campaign, Wampler and Love have each averaged 19.5 points, Gentry 11.5 and Smith 10.5 while Love has grabbed 8.5 rebounds.

Going 8-2 over the last ten games, Love has averaged 16.6 points, more than a point better than his season numbers.  Wampler is at 15.1 points, slightly better than overall but the team has outscored its opponents 74.4 to 64.3.

Green Bay
The Phoenix, 17-15 overall, are the number four seed and defeated UIC 82-77 last Tuesday at home.  Green Bay finished the game on a 13-3 run and had four players in double-figures, led by Sandy Cohen III with 21 points. GB has won seven of their last 10 games.

Cohen was named First Team All-League after averaging 18.2 ppg in league play.  He scored in double-figures in 28 of his 32 games played this season, with 11 games of 20 points or more. He leads his team in every major statistical category: scoring, rebounding, assists, steals, blocks and minutes.  Junior college transfer JayQuan McCloud pitches in 13.8 points per game, and junior ShanQuan Hemphill 11.7.

In the Feb. 28 tilt against the Raiders, Cohen led GB with a game-high 24 points and seven rebounds, adding three blocks and three assists.

A Little Tournament History
Monday's game will mark the third time in four years the two teams will have met in the Horizon League Tournament.  In 2016 Green Bay beat WSU 78-69 in the championship game, and the Raiders turned the tables last year winning 87-72 in the quarterfinal round.  That win was the first of three as the Raiders secured the Horizon League's NCAA berth, the school's first since 2007.  WSU is 4-1 in league tournament games under Nagy, including this year's win over IUPUI.

Next Up
With a win, the Raiders will advance to the championship game Tuesday night at 7:00 PM on ESPN.
