@WSU_SB Claims Two Clutch Victories

Wright State (8-11) won a pair of games at the Bailey Memorial Tournament in dramatic fashion. The Raiders opened the day with an 8-inning thriller against Saint Louis and concluded with a great performance against a very talented Western Kentucky squad.

Game 1

1st Inning
The Raiders manufactured runs in the early innings to open up a lead on the Bilikens. In the first, Madison Whitaker wore a pitch and advanced to second. Then, Lauren Deitrick hit a single and took advantage of a Saint Louis error, which allowed Whitaker to score.

3rd Inning
Makenna Durieux continued her success on the mound and Wright State struck again for a second run in the third. Madison Whitaker, Lauren Deitrick, and Brianna Hutchinson all singled to load the bases, and Macy McCall drew a four pitch walk to score Whitaker. The Bilikens got a strikeout to sneak out of the inning allowing just one run.

4th Inning
Wright State once again put runners on base and scored a run in the inning. Jordyn Poulson got the frame started with an 0-2 single and promptly stole second base. Madison Nunez singled to put runners on the corners, and the Raiders took advantage of a throwing error and added their third run of the game. Saint Louis faced another bases loaded jam but and recorded another strikeout to escape.

7th Inning
The Bilikens finally touched up Durieux for two runs in the fifth, and then tied the game with another run in the sixth. Then, in the seventh, Saint Louis broke the game wide open with a 6-run frame. Despite the deficit, the Raiders never quit and battled back with an impressive comeback. Lauren Deitrick took advantage of another defensive mishap, and Macy McCall and Brianna Hutchinson drew walks to load the bases. This time, Wright State took advantage when Madison Hartman hit her first career home run in the form of a grand slam. With the scoreboard reading 9-7 in favor of Saint Louis, Jordyn Poulson and Rebekah Lenos singled back-to-back. Madison Nunez stepped to the plate and hit a clutch single which scored both Poulson and Lenos, tying the game. Saint Louis recorded the third out, sending the game to extras.

8th Inning
By rule, a runner was placed on second for each team in extras, and Olivia Otani worked around that runner without allowing a run. Madison Hutchinson was the designated runner for the Raiders, and scored the winning run on a throwing error.

Game 2
Wright State faced a rematch with Western Kentucky after dropping the first game against the Hilltoppers on Friday by a score of 6-3. The Raiders found themselves in a pitchers duel against Kelsey Aikey, who threw a one-hit shutout in her last appearance. Aikey kept Wright State scoreless until the sixth. Western Kentucky scored a run in the third, and kept that 1-0 lead until Macy McCall singled and scored on a Raidyn Johnson RBI. A Madison Hartman single scored the go-ahead run. Maddux Hughes wrapped up a game with a scoreless frame in the seventh to close out the victory.
