The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) released its annual All-American honors this week, and Raiders outfielder Peyton Burdick was named to the first team, joining national Player of the Year and number one overall draft pick Adley Rutschman, as well as many other power 5 finalists. Â
Burdick, the Horizon League Player of the Year and first-team member, led the Raider to the conference regular-season title, hitting .407 in 59 games in right field. The Batavia, OH native also led WSU with 87 hits, 18 doubles, 15 homeruns and 72 RBI with 79 runs scored, 60 walks, 156 total bases and 24 stolen bases. He also ranks nationally in many categories: batting average (8th), walks (5th), total bases (9th), runs (4th) and homeruns (43rd). Burdick is the 15th Raider to receive an All-American honor and only the fourth to receive an accolade of second or first team. The last to receive an honor of second team or better was Michael Schum's second team distinction in 2011.
This is Burdick's fifth All-American distinction following his career-best season, and Peyton was drafted in the third round of the MLB Draft by the Miami Marlins on June 4th.
