Raiders Open Season with 2-0 Win

The Wright State women's soccer team opened their 2019 season on the road Friday night with a 2-0 win at Marian University, in Indianapolis.

The Raiders struck quickly as Destiny Johnson netted the team's first goal of the season at the 1:57 mark on an assist from Erin Graefen. It was the sixth career goal for the junior from Zanesville.

Fifteen minutes later junior Brittney Petrosky scored on a goalie deflection of a Jordyne Helinski shot.  Both teams tightened up from there, with no goals scored the remaining 70 minutes.

Junior goalkeeper Maddie Jewell notched the shutout, the 12th of her career.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • The Raiders outshot the Knights 17-11 overall, a staggering 11-1 in the second half
  • Marian held the advantage in corner kicks, 6-1

HEAD COACH PAT FERGUSON
"Tonight was a good opportunity to grow as a team and get closer to understanding what we are and aren't capable of, collectively and individually.  Marian is a well coached, athletic team.  So, overall I'm pleased with the result."
