Raiders Top Miami 1-0 in Home Opener

Wright State opened its 2019 home slate with a 1-0 win on Sunday over Miami University at Alumni Field.

Possession was balanced throughout the first half.  The match remained scoreless until the 43rd minute when freshman Michelle Rings recorded her first collegiate goal on a direct kick from 30'.  Goalie Lauren Parker got a hand but it wasn't enough to prevent the score.

Head coach Pat Ferguson substituted liberally in the first half, with Rings the only Raider field starter that played the entire 45 minutes.

Miami turned up the heat in the second stanza, outshooting Wright State 10-4 and applying consistent pressure on the back end.  Freshman Keara Kerr nearly tied it off a header in the 67th minute.  Goalkeeper Maddie Jewell made a leaping save to preserve the lead.

Jewell recorded her second consecutive shutout.
