Johnson's two goals lift women's soccer past Morehead State Friday night

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Destiny Johnson scored a pair of goals on Friday night, including the eventual game-winner in the 85th minute, as the Wright State women's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory at Morehead State.

The win improves the Raiders to 5-1-1 on the season, while Morehead State falls to 1-5.

With the Raiders trialing after a Morehead State breakaway goal by Nicole Fiantaco in the 31st minute, Johnson knotted the game up with her first goal of the night in the 48th minute off an assist from Ell Schneider. The game remained deadlocked at 1-all until late in the match, when Johnson header found the back of the net off a cross from Jordyne Helinski.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • The Raiders outshot Morehead State 12-4, with nine of those shots coming in the second half.
  • Goalkeeper Maddie Jewell recorded three saves, including a pair in the second half, as the Wright State defense faced 10 corner kicks on the night.
  • Helinski tallied a game-high six shots, with two going on goal, and her assist to pace the Raiders, while two of Johnson's three shots found their way to the back of the net.
  • Friday night's victory was the Raiders' fifth of the season, one off their season total of six wins from a season ago. The win over Morehead State was Wright State's third road victory in 2019, matching the team's road win total from last season.
 
UP NEXT
Wright State returns home to Alumni Field for a Sunday afternoon matchup against UT Martin. UT Martin is coming off an OVC title in 2018 and is 2-3-2 on the season following a 2-1 loss against Indiana on Thursday night.
