Raiders sweep Missouri State for ninth consecutive win

The Wright State volleyball team tallied its ninth straight win on Friday night as it defeated Missouri State in the first game of the Ball State Tournament. The Raiders will look to add to their winning streak on Saturday with a pair of matches, facing Ball State at 12 p.m. before facing Austin Peay at 4:30 p.m. to close the weekend.
 
The Raiders finished the three-set match with 34 total kills, with contributions coming from Teddie Sauer, Megan Alders and Celia Powers. Powers and Alders both knocked down nine kills and Sauer was right behind with eight kills of her own. Lainey Stephenson added four kills to the total and racked up 24 assists. Jenna Story led the match with 16 digs, and Hannah Colvin added eight of her own for a total of 42 digs for the Raiders. The defense at the net put up 9 1/2 blocks with contributions from Nyssa Baker, Powers and Sauer.
 
Set 1
The points went back and forth to start the set as each team made mistakes and went kill for kill. With the score tied at 12-12 the Raiders took the lead over the Bears. As Wright State reached the red zone the Bears fought to make a comeback but came up short, as Story ended the set with an ace for the Raiders to win 25-22.
 
Set 2
The Raiders started the set with a quick advantage as Powers and Stephenson each tallied kills. Each team picked up an ace as the score reached 7-3 in favor of the Raiders. Stephenson knocked down two more kills for Wright State to reach 16 points before Missouri State shortened the deficit down to one as the score was 17-16. The Raiders were first into the red zone as Sauer powered down a kill and went on to win the set 25-18 on an ace by Stephenson.
 
Set 3
Missouri State took the lead out of the gates as the Raiders trailed by two points. After three aces from Story and a kill from Powers, the Raiders took the lead and extended their advantage to lead the Bears 13-5. A combined offensive and defensive gave the Raiders a 25-14 set win.
