
Wright State welcomes Oakland for HL home opener

The Wright State women's basketball team returns to the Nutter Center to welcome Oakland for a pair of games in the second weekend of Horizon League play. The Raiders and Golden Grizzlies will square off on Saturday and Sunday, with both games set for 2 p.m. tipoffs.

Wright State is coming off a weekend sweep of Detroit Mercy to start Horizon League play with a 2-0 record. Last Saturday, junior KK White led the way for the Raiders scoring 18 points and recording four blocks. Senior Tyler Frierson recorded her first double-double of the season tallying 12 points and 11 rebounds, leading Wright State in that category. On the glass, Wright State outrebounded the Titans 58-30 overall, with 18 offensive rebounds and 40 defensive. Detroit Mercy finished the night with eight offensive and 30 defensive rebounds. Sunday saw 14 different Raiders contribute to the scoreline, as Angel Baker, Jada Roberson and KK White all scored nine points, led by White's eight rebounds. Tyler Frierson added eight points, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and 2-for-2 from the line, pulling down seven rebounds. Gabrielle Redden and Emani Jefferson both contributed seven points to stat line for Wright State. The Raiders shot 50.9 percent for the game, while the Titans converted on just 25.6 percent of their shots.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
- Oakland is 2-2 this season, with a home loss to Michigan and road loss to Toledo, along with a pair of home wins against Horizon League foe, UIC. The Golden Grizzlies were picked to finish ninth in the #HLWBB Preseason Poll.
- Kahlaijah Dean poured in a game-high 28 points, while Jalisha Terry added all of her 13 points in the fourth quarter, as the Golden Grizzlies held on for a 76-70 Horizon League opening win over UIC on December 12 before closing the weekend with a 26-point win the next day over the Flames. Brianna Breedy had 16 points to lead Oakland in the second game, as she was one of three players in double figures.
- Oakland returns a total of 13 student-athletes from last year's squad. After sitting out last season due to NCAA transfer rules, Temple transfer Breanna Perry will make her season debut. The Golden Grizzlies have one freshman in Lamariyee Williams who will look to make an immediate impact.
