Wright State fights, falls to Oakland Saturday afternoon

The Wright State women's basketball program was unable to overcome an early deficit Saturday afternoon inside the Nutter Center as the visiting Oakland Golden Grizzlies handed the Raiders a 75-69 loss, snapping a two-game winning streak.

Wright State is now 2-3 overall and 2-1 in Horizon League play, while Oakland improves to 3-2 overall and 3-0 in HL action.

A seven-point game after the first quarter, saw Wright State score 21 points in the second quarter but that wouldn't be enough as Oakland tallied 27 of their own to head into the locker room up 47-34 at the halftime mark. The Raiders went on to outscore the Golden Grizzlies 21-8 in the third quarter to tie things up at 55 all heading into the fourth quarter but that wouldn't be enough as Oakland tallied 20 points in the fourth quarter.

Two Raiders finished in double figures scoring, led by Angel Baker's season-high 22 points, while Jada Roberson finished with 17 points of her own. Baker finished the contest 7-for-29 from the field and was 5-for-7 from the free throw line, while also pulling down seven rebounds. Roberson was 5-for-15 from the field and 7-for-8 from the line. Tyler Frierson tallied a game-leading 13 rebounds, nine of which were on the offensive side of things.

The Raiders shot just 30.1 percent for the game, while the Golden Grizzlies converted on 44.8 percent of their shots. Beyond the arc, Oakland out shot Wright State 8 to 3. The Raiders finished the afternoon shooting 68.8 percent (22-for-32) from the free throw line while the Golden Grizzlies connected on 15 of their 25 opportunities (60.0 percent). The Raiders tallied 22 second chance points to Oakland's 11. Both teams tallied 32 points in the paint, respectively.

Wright State won the battle on the boards for the fourth consecutive contest, out rebounding Oakland 58-32 overall. The defensive battle on the glass saw the Raiders tally 27 rebounds while the Golden Grizzlies recorded 24. Offensively, Wright State pulled down 31 rebounds to Oakland's eight.
