Schoonmaker leads, Raiders fourth after two rounds

After one day and 36 holes, the Wright State golf team sits in fourth place overall and five shots off the team lead heading into Sunday's final round at The Invitational at Savannah Harbor, while senior Austin Schoonmaker leads the individual scorers at five-under par after two rounds.

As a team, the Raiders were nine shots back of the team leaders in a tie for fifth after carding a team 299 total, while Schoonmaker carded seven birdies to jump out to the individual lead. Wright State battled gusty conditions throughout the second round, but picked up a spot in the team standings with a 290 team score and are plus-13 as a team heading into Sunday action.

Through two rounds, Delaware and Valparaiso are tied for the team lead at plus-eight after two-round totals of 584. Delaware was consistent as a team in both rounds, while Valparaiso jumped from a tie for 10th after the opening 18 holes (301 team score) up to the top of the team standings with a 283 team score in the second round.

Individually, Schoonmaker heads into Sunday one shot ahead of Hugo Kedzlie of Delaware, while two other players are two shots back. His first-round card of 69 made him the lone player in the sixties in the opening round, while Jack Juskow of Valparaiso carded a 67 in the second round as the only other player to card a sub-70 round. Juskow shot 79 in the opening round before the round of 67 pushed him up to a tie for seventh individually.

Wright State freshman Mikkel Mathiesen carded rounds of 77 and 71 on Saturday to sit in a tie for 16th individually, while Raider junior Bryce Haney (76, 75) and freshman Tyler Goecke (77, 74) are tied for 49th. Sophomore Cole Corder rounded out the Wright State lineup with rounds of 80 and 76 and is tied for 77th.
