Schoonmaker earns first career win in season opener

Raider senior Austin Schoonmaker earned his first collegiate victory as the Wright State golf team finished second overall as a team at the season-opening The Invitational at Savannah Harbor.

Schoonmaker, who had the lead after two rounds, carded a final round 70 on Sunday morning to finish seven-under for the tournament at 209 overall, two shots ahead of Hugo Kedzlie of Delaware.

As a team, the Raiders were in fourth after two rounds on Saturday but turned in a team score of 282 on Sunday behind a pair of sub-70 rounds by Mikkel Mathiesen and Tyler Goecke. Mathiesen finished tied for ninth individually after his final round 69, while Goecke carded a 68 on Sunday to move all the way from a tie for 49^th up to his tied for 13^th finish. Bryce Haney (75 on Sunday, tied for 57^th) and Cole Corder (80 on Sunday, 90^th) rounded out the Raider lineup.

Wright State now takes a few weeks off before traveling back south for the Orlando Invitational, hosted by George Mason, on March 9 and 10.
