The Wright State women's basketball closed out its home schedule in style on Thursday evening, as the Raiders handed NKU a 79-69 loss in the Nutter Center.
Wright State is now 16-11 overall and 11-5 in Horizon League play while Northern Kentucky fell to 16-11 overall and 10-6 in HL action. With the win, the Raiders completed their regular season sweep of the Norse and took sole possession of second place in the HL standings.
The first three quarters would be a back and forth battle, seeing no team score more than 19 points, respectively as the Raiders outscore the Norse 19-11 at the end of the first quarter, while Northern Kentucky would look to answer, outscoring the hosts 19-12 heading into the locker room down just one point at halftime. The Raiders would return to the floor and outscore the Norse 19-14 in the third quarter. The fourth quarter would be the true test, as Northern Kentucky would pull within five multiple times over the final 10 minutes but ultimately it wasn't enough. Â
Angel Baker finished the night with a career-best at home, scoring 29 points, 21 of which came in the second half, finishing the contest 9-for-19 from the field, 5-for-7 from three point range and a perfect 6-for-6 from the line.
Michal Miller tallied 16 points for the Raiders, finishing the night 5-for-10 from the field, 1-for-3 from beyond the arc and 5-for-6 from the line.
Shamarre Hale and
Alexis Stover finished the contest with 11 points each. Hale was 5-for-6 from the field and 1-for-4 from the line, while Stover was 5-for-9 from the field and 1-for-3 from the arc.
Wright State finished the contest shooting 50 percent from the field (28-56), 43.8 percent from the arc (7-16), while NKU shot just 38.2 percent from the field and 28 percent from beyond the arc.
The Raiders went to the free throw line 24 times, connecting on 16 such opportunities (66.7 percent), while the Norse had just 14 but would connect on 10 (71.4 percent). Wright State totaled 34 points in the paint to Northern Kentucky's 24. The Norse bench would outscore the Raiders 25-17 for the contest.
Wright State recorded an advantage on the glass, out rebounding NKU 43-31, recording 32 defensive rebounds to the Norse's 31. Both team would record just nine offensive rebounds.
