Wright State set to host Detroit Mercy on Thursday night

The Horizon League-leading Wright State men's basketball team opens its final homestand of the regular season on Thursday night, welcoming Detroit Mercy to town in the first of four consecutive home games inside the Nutter Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be a White Out with the first 4,000 fans receiving t-shirts. The Raiders (19-5 overall, 9-2 HL) have won seven straight contests at home and are undefeated in Horizon League play inside the Nutter Center. Detroit Mercy begins this week 6-17 overall and 4-6 in HL play.

Last time out, Wright State fell 92-89 at Green Bay on Sunday afternoon in Horizon League action as Cole Gentry's three-point attempt at the buzzer couldn't find the bottom of the net. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Raiders, who have now split the regular season series with Green Bay in each of the last two campaigns. The biggest difference on the stat sheet came at the free throw stripe. Wright State connected at a 75 percent rate, hitting 21-of-28, but saw Green Bay hit 28 of its 43 total attempts (65 percent). In points scored on the court, the Raiders had a 68-64 advantage. The Raiders had three players finish with double-figure scoring games, led by Loudon Love's 21 points as he finished the afternoon 7-of-14 from the floor and with a 7-of-11 mark at the free throw stripe along with nine rebounds, two assists and a pair of blocks. Tanner Holden notched 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting, while James Manns tallied 11 of his own.

TITAN TUSSLE
Thursday will be the 61st meeting all-time between Wright State and Detroit Mercy, with the Raiders leading the series 33-27 after a 70-69 victory earlier this season in Detroit thanks to Jaylon Hall's three-pointer from the corner with 16 seconds remaining. Loudon Love tallied a double-double with 23 points and a career-high 20 rebounds in the win as the Raiders have won 10 of 12 in the series over the last five-plus seasons. Wright State coach Scott Nagy is 6-1 against Detroit Mercy.

MADE IN DETROIT
Detroit Mercy leads the HL and is fourth in the country in free-throw percentage at 79.1 percent, connecting on at least 20 or more free throws six times this season. Antoine Davis leads the league and is sixth in the nation (91.3%) as he has hit 116-of-127 on the year, while Justin Miller is fourth in the HL and 128th in the nation at 81.1 percent. After finishing third in the nation in scoring last season, Antoine Davis has his name right back on top of the nation's leaders as he ranks third in the country and leading the Horizon League in scoring at 23.3 points per game. He has 15 games with 20 or more points and four 30-point outings on the year, including a season-high 35 against SIUE, 31 at #1 Gonzaga and 33 at Ohio. Last year, he topped the HL at 26.1 ppg. and he is the second active leading scorer in Division I in at 25.0 ppg. Chris Brandon has been a beast on the glass in his last 12 games, pulling down at least 10 rebounds in seven contests and is averaging 11.1 in that span with three double-doubles. He also has at least four offensive rebounds in eight of those games, including nine at Oakland.

RAIDING THE BOARDS
Junior Loudon Love is averaging 10.1 rebounds per game and now has 811 career rebounds entering the weekend, which is third on the Wright State all-time rebounding list. Love is just 16 rebounds shy of Sean Hammonds (1989-94) second-place total of 828 boards. Bill Edwards (1989-93) sits atop the Raider record book with 907 career rebounds. Love's career rebound average currently sits at 9.2, a mark on pace to break Rondey Robinson's (1987-89) program record of 8.7 rebounds per game career average. Love's 341 rebounds in his initial campaign in 2017-18 was the most in a single season in Wright State history.

ON A NATIONAL SCALE
Entering the weekend, Wright State is second nationally among NCAA Division I programs in total rebounds with 988 total boards – two off the national leader Gonzaga (990). The Raiders are averaging 41.17 rebounds per game, a mark that is No. 9 nationally. Their 13.21 offensive rebounds per game average is No. 15 nationally and the 27.96 defensive rebounds is 35th in the country.

The Raiders are No. 12 nationally in scoring offense (81.1) – a mark that is second in the Horizon to Green Bay (81.5). Wright State's 553 free throw attempts are the eighth-most in the NCAA this season, while the 369 free throws made are the 21st-most nationally. Individually, Loudon Love's 4.21 offensive rebounds per game average is No. 4 in the country. Overall, Wright State is inside the top 50 in nine different statistical categories as a team (five inside the Top 15) and is in the Top 100 nationally in 21 statistical categories.

Wright State head coach Scott Nagy is approaching the latest milestone of his coaching career, sitting on 495 career wins heading into the matchup with Detroit Mercy. Nagy won 410 games in 21 seasons at South Dakota State before tallying seasons of 20, 25, 21 and 19 (and counting) wins with the Raiders.

The Raiders had been ranked at No. 10 for the past two weeks, matching their highest spot this season (Nov. 11, Jan. 20, Jan. 27 poll dates) The team has been in every weekly ranking all season after opening at No. 13 in the preseason listing.
