Wright State softball ended day one of the Mercer Invitational falling to the host Bears 10-2 on Friday evening in Macon, Ga. as Mercer used a five-run fourth inning to take control.
Mercer took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, keyed by Micayla Rood's two-run single, before the Raiders got on the board with single runs in both the third and fourth frames.
Macy McCall led off the third inning with a single before she was erased on
Emily Daniel's fielder's choice ground ball. After stealing second, Daniel came around to score on
Raidyn Johnson's double.
A Grace Gressley single to right field followed by a
Lauren Deitrick sacrifice fly would bring home pinch runner
Jordyn Poulson and cut the Bears lead to just 4-2 in the top of the fourth inning. The Bears five runs in the bottom of the fourth came on four hits led by a Diamond Williams' two run single and a three run double from Kyle Helm, making the score 9-2. The hosts added one final run in the fifth off Elisa Rosado's RBI double.
Grace Gressley had two of Wright State's five hits while Johnson's double in the third inning was the Raiders' lone extra base hit of the game.
Makenna Durieux recorded the loss after allowing four runs off five hits in 1.1 innings pitch.
The Raiders are back in action tomorrow starting at 9 a.m. as they face Tennessee Tech before taking on Eastern Kentucky later that evening.
