Wright State softball dropped its fifth and final game of the Mercer Invitational, falling to Tennessee Tech 7-1 on Sunday morning in Macon, Ga. as the Golden Eagles used a 5-0 inning in the top of the fifth to take control.
After two scoreless innings, the Raiders were first on the scoreboard by way of a
Grace Gressly solo home run, her second of the weekend. The Golden Eagles responded scoring two runs in the top of the fourth by way of a Raegan Sparks RBI single.
A solo home run would start and end the top of the fifth inning for Tennessee Tech, the same inning that would see a Nicolle Nystead three-run home run. Wright State started the bottom of the fifth inning with a single from freshman
Olivia Bricker followed by a
Rebekah Lenos single.
Brianna Hutchinson would ground out to first base but advance
Emily Daniel to second and
Macy McCall to third but the Raiders would leave the bases loaded. Neither team scored a run in the final two innings as both teams defenses were put to the test.Â
Olivia Otani recorded the loss after allowing seven runs off five hits in 1.2 innings pitched.
The Raiders return home to prepare for the UT Martin Spring Classic in Martin, Tenn. on February 22 and 23.
