Wright State falls in finale Sunday afternoon

The Wright State baseball team found itself in an early hole on Sunday afternoon as Auburn handed the Raiders a 6-0 loss in the finale of the weekend series.

The Raiders now return home to get set for their second midweek contest of the season, this Tuesday afternoon when they make the short trip to take on Miami (OH) at 3 p.m.

Sunday afternoon, Auburn posted four runs in the bottom of the first inning on a pair of hits, keyed by a three-run double from Matt Scheffler. Wright State finished with six hits and also drew five walks to leave 10 men stranded on the bases – including two each in the second, fourth, fifth and eighth innings.

Auburn added to the lead with a single run in the third inning when Scheffler walked and later scored on a Wright State fielding error. The hosts added the final run of the afternoon in the fifth with Scheffler again in the middle of the action, this time delivering an RBI single.

Quincy Hamilton finished with a two-hit afternoon to lead the Raiders while also drawing a walk. Cameron Rountree's double to lead off the fourth inning was the lone Wright State extra-base hit, while Damon Dues, Tyler Black and Konner Piotto each had one hit.

Austin Cline took the loss for the Raiders, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work. Julian Greenwell (1.1 innings) and Jake Schrand (2 innings) both had two strikeouts out of the bullpen.

Bailey Horn struck out seven batters over five innings while allowing six hits to earn the win for Auburn. Along with Scheffler's two-hit, four RBI day, the hosts also saw Rankin Woley turn in a two-hit afternoon.
