Six Wright State women's basketball players were honored with Horizon League awards, the league office announced Monday morning, headlined by Freshman of the Year selection
Shamarre Hale.
Sophomore
Angel Baker was named to the All-League First Team and senior
Michal Miller was named to the All-League Second Team. Hale and fellow freshman teammate
Jada Roberson were both named to the All-Freshman Team, while junior
Tyler Frierson rounded out the awards for the Raiders with her selection to the All-Defensive Team.
Baker, a 5-8 sophomore from Indianapolis, IN, has started and seen action in all 29 games this year, averaging 34.3 minutes and 17.0 points with 43 steals and 110 assists. The guard had her career-best 34 points at SMU and recorded a home game-high 29 points inside the Nutter Center against Northern Kentucky. She also collected three consecutive 23 point outings earlier this season and tallied 20 points against Oakland on Thursday.
Miller, a 5-7 senior from Michigan City, IN, has seen action in 26 of the Raiders contests this year, averaging 26.6 minutes per game, tallying 12.8 points with 75 assists and 86 total rebounds. She had a season-high 25 points in Wright State's final contest against Detroit Mercy on Saturday afternoon. She has posted five-plus rebounds in six different games this year while scoring in double figures 19 times, including four 20-plus point games.
Hale, a 6-2 redshirt freshman from Crete, IL, has played in all 29 of the contests, averaging 16.4 minutes per game, 8.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per contest. The center recorded 13 double figure scoring outings, including a career-high 18 points in 19 minutes of action on the road against Cleveland State. She pulled down 220 total rebounds for the Raiders during the regular season, including a career-high 14 rebounds on the road at Detroit Mercy.
Roberson, a 5-7 guard from Muskegon, MI, has seen action in all 29 of Wright State's contests, averaging 18.3 minutes and 6.7 points with 3.4 rebounds per game, 27 assists and 24 steals. The freshman finished the regular season shooting 75 percent from the free throw line. She had a career-best on the road against Cleveland State with 17 points in 21 minutes of action.
Frierson, a 6-4 center from Long Beach, CA, started 27 contests, averaging 20.6 minutes per game and pulling down 9.0 rebounds per game (242 total), including 143 defensive rebounds. The center collected 12 double figure rebounding outings for Wright State, including a season-high 15 rebounds on the road at Northern Kentucky.
Wright State will open the Horizon League Tournament Tuesday night by hosting the No. 10 seed UIC at 7 p.m. inside the Nutter Center. The winner advances to Thursday's quarterfinals.
