The Wright State softball team dropped its first two contests of the ASU Invitational, falling to Oregon State 8-0 Thursday evening before falling to Arizona State 12-0 in Tempe, Arizona.
Oregon State
The first four innings were quiet for both teams but the Beavers would use a 7-0 to take control. The Beaver's bats came to life in the bottom of the fifth Xiao Gin led off with a triple down the left-field line. Followed with Mariah Mazon recording a sac fly into right field. Grace Messmer followed with a double into right center and Fallon Molnar came up with a double of her own down the left line to bring in the second run of the game. Molnar returned to the plate in the bottom fo the sixth and recorded a walk-off homerun to clinch the Beavers 8-0 victory.
Carly Turner recorded the loss after allowing three runs off six hits in 4.1 innings pitched.
Olivia Otani also saw action in the circle, allowing five runs off four hits in 0.2 innings pitched.
Arizona State
Arizona State started strong in the bottom of the first inning by way of a Jazmine Hill two-run homer into right center field. After three straight walks for the Sun Devils, Makenna Harper recorded a grand slam to take a 7-0 lead over the Raiders. DaNae Chatman hit a solo homer to right field in the bottom of the second before a Kindra Hackbarth single to left field drove home another Devil to complete the 12-0 contest.
Olivia Otani recorded the loss after allowing seven runs off four hits in 1.0 innings pitched. Lauren Deirtick also saw action in the circle, allowing five runs off four hits in 0.1 innings pitched before
Carly Turner returned to the circle.
