Wright State tallies first win of ASU Invitational

The Wright State softball team used two three-run innings to record its first victory of the ASU invitational and sixth of the season over Nebraska, 6-4, Friday afternoon.

The Raiders would start early in the top of the first led by a Grace Gressly single up the middle followed by a Payton Baxter single to right field but were unable to find a run, leaving two runners on base as the inning came to a close. The Huskers were first on the board by way of a Tristen Edwards solo homerun in the bottom of the first.

Nebraska added two more in the bottom of the fourth as an Ally Riley sac-fly would drive in one before Sarah Yocom singled to right field advancing all runners and adding another run.

Wright State looked to answer in the top of the fifth as Meredith Keel started the bats for the Raiders singling to shortstop. Back to back walks by the Huskers loaded the bases and set up a Grace Gressly RBI single to left field before a Brianna Hutchinson two-run RBI single to center field would tie the score 3-3.

Payton Baxter's two-run homerun in the top of the seventh inning gave the Raiders a 5-3 lead before Madison Hartman's single up the middle drove home pinch runner Erniey Hursey, extending Wright State's lead. Nebraska added one final run in the bottom of the inning by way of a double to right centerfield.

Grace Gressly, Payton Baxter and Meredith Keel all finished today's contest going 3-for-4 at the plate with Baxter recording two RBIs and one homerun.
