The Wright State softball team used a six-run bottom of the first inning to record its second consecutive victory of the ASU Invitational and seventh of the season over New Mexico State, 11-3, Friday evening in Tempe, Arizona.
New Mexico State was first on the scoreboard by way of a walk in the top of the inning before the Raiders used a six-run inning in the bottom of the first to take the lead. A
Grace Gressly sac-fly drove in the first Raider run followed by a
Madison Hartman single up the middle before
Meredith Keel's single up the middle drove home another Wright State run. With two runners on,
Lauren Deitrick's three-run homer would end in inning for the Raiders.
New Mexico State looked to answer in the top of the third led by Matalasi Faapito's single up the middle to drive in another Aggie run. Chloe Rivas' RBI sac-fly would add another run to the score board but it wouldn't be enough. Wright State added three more runs in the bottom of the inning led by
Meredith Keel's RBI single up the middle and a throwing error by the Aggie's brought in two more runs for the Raiders followed by
Lauren Deitrick's RBI double to center field.
Grace Gressly's two-run RBI double to center field added the Raiders two final runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Lauren Deitrick led the efforts at the plate for Wright State, going 2-for-2 with four RBIs and a homerun.
Grace Gressly finished the night 1-for-1 at the plate recording three RBIs and an extra base hit.
Olivia Otani recorded the win in the circle for the Raiders allowing just three runs off three hits in 5.0 innings of work.
