Two in double figures leads Raiders to weekend sweep

The Wright State women's basketball team defeated Youngstown State 54-39, to sweep the series and record its third consecutive Horizon League win of the 2020-21 season, as 10 different Raiders contributed to the score line Saturday afternoon in Youngstown.
With the win, Wright State improves to 5-3 overall and 5-1 in Horizon League play, Youngstown State falls of 0-2 overall and 0-2 in HL action. The Raiders will remain on the road and face Cleveland State on January 8th and 9th.
Youngstown State took control of the contest early, outscoring Wright State 12-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Raiders went on to outscore the Penguins 11-10 in the second quarter but headed into the locker room still down, 22-18.
It was a tale of two halves, as Wright State would hold Youngstown State to just 17 points over the final 20 minutes. The fourth quarter was the deciding factor for the Raiders, who went on an 11-0 run. A 3pt jump shot from Emani Jefferson with 3:56 to play, would give the Raiders a 17 point lead, before Youngstown State's Chelsea Olson recorded a three to cut the lead to 14 but that wouldn't be enough.
Destyne Jackson recorded her second consecutive double-digit scoring effort, tallying 11 points to lead the Raiders followed by Angel Baker's 10 points. Jackson finished the contest 4-for-9 from the field and 3-for-6 from beyond the arc while also pulling down six rebounds. Baker recorded her sixth double-figure contest of the season, going 5-for-13 from the field and providing four assists. Along with Jackson, Tyler Frierson and KK White each contribute six total rebounds for the Raiders.
The Raiders shot just 37.1 percent for the game, while the Penguins shot just 27.9 percent for the contest. Beyond the arc, Wright State recorded just one more three than Youngstown State, 7-6. Wright State tallied 15 of their points off Youngstown State turnovers while also outscoring the Penguins 20-8 in the paint.
Wright State won the battle on the boards for the seventh consecutive contest, out rebounding Youngstown State 42-27 overall. The defensive battle on the glass saw the Raiders pull down 27 to the Penguins 23, while on the offensive side, Wright State pulled down 15 rebounds to YSU's five. Notably, 22 of the Raiders points came from the bench while the Penguins bench tallied just 11.
