DAYTON – The Wright State volleyball team battled all night, but ultimately came up short, as visiting UIC handed the Raiders a 3-2 loss inside McLin Gymnasium.
Wright State (16-7, 8-3 HL) won sets two and four, both by 25-20 set scores, while UIC (13-10, 9-2 HL) took sets one, 25-22, and three, 25-21, before the Flames took the deciding set 18-16. The loss snapped the Raiders' eight-match winning streak.
Both teams played well, with the Raiders finishing the night with a .221 team hitting percentage and the Flames with a .229 team hitting mark, while UIC had 76 kills to Wright State's 70. Both sides also eclipsed the 100-dig mark, with the Raiders finishing the night with 108 and the Flames at 102.
Sam Ott led the Raider offense with 19 kills, while
Megan Alders added 15 of her own.
Callie Martin was one of two Wright State players to end the night with a double-double, tallying 14 kills and 23 digs, while
Teddie Sauer finished with 10 kills.
Lainey Stephenson had the other Raider double-double, passing out 48 of Wright State's 48 assists, while she also added 22 digs.
Ellee Ruskaup finished with a team-high 24 digs, while
Jenna Story (16) and
Jenny Morey (11) were also in double figures defensively.
Wright State continues a three-match homestand inside McLin Gymnasium on Friday night when the Raiders welcome Horizon League-leading Milwaukee for a 6 p.m. start. The Raiders close the weekend by hosting Green Bay on Sunday afternoon as they celebrate Senior Day prior to the match.
