TOLEDO, OH – The Wright State women's basketball team could not overcome a slow start on Saturday afternoon, falling at Toledo 73-56, but continued to show improvement throughout the afternoon.
After being held to just 22 first half points, Wright State (0-2) tallied 34 points over the final two quarters and won the scoring battle in the second half as the Raiders got scoring contributions from seven different players.
Destyne Jackson turned in her second-straight double-digit scoring game to open the season, finishing with a team-high 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting overall as she tallied 10 points over the first 20 minutes. Three Raiders each finished the afternoon with eight points, as
Constance Chaplin added nine rebounds to her scoring,
Jada Roberson added three rebounds and a pair of steals to her final stat line and
KK White chipped in five rebounds of her own.
Diamond Stokes and
Jada Wright each finished with six points inside for Wright State, with Stokes pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds off the bench.
Deesh Beck rounded out the Raider scoring, tallying five points.
Wright State finished shooting 31 percent (21-of-68) from the floor, but saw that percentage increase as the game progressed, closing the afternoon out by shooting just under 40 percent in the fourth quarter. The Raiders continue to connect from the free throw stripe, hitting 10-of-12 attempts (83 percent) and outrebounded Toledo 48-39, winning both the offensive and defensive glass.
Toledo finished the afternoon shooing 45 percent (31-of-69) from the floor and had a trio of players in double-figures, led by Quinesha Lockett's game-high 23 points. Jessica Cook added 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Sophia Wiard had 12 points for the hosts.
Wright State continues its season-opening road trip as it jumps into Horizon League play for the first time this year with a trip to Wisconsin. The Raiders will take on Milwaukee on Thursday night before a Saturday afternoon visit to Green Bay.
