Jackson and Roberson tally double digits to pace Raiders on Wednesday

DAYTON – The Wright State women's basketball team continued to show improvement early in the season on Wednesday afternoon, ultimately falling to visiting Xavier 62-47 in the Raiders' season-opener inside the Nutter Center.

Wright State (0-5) continued to receive balanced scoring, with seven different Raiders finding the scoring column on Wednesday, paced by Jada Roberson's 11 points and a 10-point effort from Destyne Jackson. Jackson has now scored in double figures in all five contests to date. Channing Chappell chipped in nine points, while Diamond Stokes added seven points and seven rebounds. Shamarre Hale came off the bench for six points of her own, while Edecia Beck and Jada Wright each added two points.

Stokes' seven rebounds led the Raiders in the category, while they pulled down 34 rebounds as team, including 24 on the defensive glass.

Wright State finished the afternoon shooting 31 percent (19-of-61) from the floor, but had its most productive quarter in the third, tallying 19 points and shooting 50 percent over the 10-minute stretch.

Xavier had a pair of 15-point scorers in Aanaya Harris and Kaelynn Satterfield leading the way, as the visitors shot 42 percent (25-of-59) overall, but found 38 of its point production from the paint and converted 18 Wright State turnovers into 20 points.

The Raiders head back out on the road, albeit for just one game, next Tuesday, making the short trip south to take on Marshall before jumping back into Horizon League play on December 3 and 5 against Purdue Fort Wayne and Cleveland State.
