DAYTON – First year Wright State women's basketball coach
Kari Hoffman notched her first victory at the helm of the Raiders on Wednesday afternoon as Wright State defeated visiting Lake Erie 91-60 in the annual Education Day matinee in font of over 2,700 fans.
The Raiders jumped out early and never looked back, tallying 33 points in the opening 10 minutes on the way to five players finishing the afternoon with double-digit scoring totals. Four of the five players notched new career-best scoring marks, as
KK White scored a career-best 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting with a trio of three pointers, finishing with a double-double after adding 13 rebounds, also a career-high, to her stat line.
Jada Wright also turned in a double-double effort, tallying 14 points and 15 rebounds – both career bests in the categories.
Jada Roberson also notched a career-high, finishing with 19 points as she hit three three-pointers of her own, while
Destyne Jackson scored in double-figures for the sixth time this season, recording a career-best 18 points.
Channing Chappell was the final Raider in double-digits, finishing with 12 points thanks to four three-point baskets.
Wright State shot 47 percent (35-of-75) from the floor overall, including a mark that was at 57 percent in the 33-point first quarter, while the Raiders were 14-of-25 (56 percent) from three-point range. Defensively, Wright State held Lake Erie to 37 percent shooting overall, while the Raider defense held the visiting Storm to just 22 percent shooting in the first half.
The Raiders won the rebounding battle, 46-41, pulling down 31 rebounds off the defensive glass. Wright State forced 17 Lake Erie turnovers and had 10 steals and converted those into 14 points, while the hosts also had 17 second chance points and 12 fast break points.
Taylor Thomas paced Lake Erie with 12 points, while Lainey Billing was also in double figures with 11 points for the visitors.
Wright State hits the road for a December 21 visit to Indiana in its final non-conference matchup of the season before the Raiders turn their attention back to Horizon League play with a pair of road contests at UIC and IUPUI on December 31 and January 2.
