Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Calvin's career-high, Basile's double-double not enough on Saturday afternoon

CLEVELAND – The Wright State men's basketball team saw Trey Calvin turn in a career- and game-high 28 points on Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't enough as the Raiders fell at Cleveland State 85-75 in Horizon League action.

Calvin had 19 of his 28 in the second half as he finished the night shooting 10-of-18 overall with three three-point baskets and was 5-of-5 at the free throw stripe. Grant Basile turned in a double-double after he added 23 points of his own to go along with 15 rebounds, but the Raiders (2-6, 1-1 HL) end the opening weekend of League play with a road split as they wrapped up their seven-game road trip.

Down 10 points coming out of the under-eight minute media timeout in the second half, the Raiders quickly cut the margin to six points on a pair of free throws from Calvin and a Basile layup, but following a miss by Cleveland State thanks to a block by Calvin on the other end, Basile's three-pointer would not connect and the hosts went on a 7-0 run of their own to extend the margin back to 13 points with under five minutes to play. A Calvin jumper with 68 seconds remaining pulled Wright State to within nine, but that would be as close as the Raiders would get down the stretch.

Wright State got scoring contributions from five additional players beyond Basile and Calvin, with nine points from Tim Finke on a trio of three-pointers, five points from Tanner Holden and four points each from AJ Braun and CJ Wilbourn, while Riley Voss added two points of his own.

The Raiders finished the afternoon shooting 42 percent (25-of-59) from the floor overall with a 7-of-21 mark from three-point range. Cleveland State was 32-of-58 (55 percent) overall from the floor, but the difference was the hosts' three-point connection, as the Vikings were 9-of-18 from deep, exceeding their season average of 5.1 made threes per contest.

Cleveland State (6-2, 2-0 HL) saw five players in double-digits, led by Jayson Woodrich's career-high 17 points on five three-pointers and 14 points from D'Moi Hodge, as nine different Vikings contributed in the scoring column.

Wright State now takes a quick breather next week as the Raiders wrap up the fall academic calendar. Wright State returns to action at home on December 15 against Akron to begin a stretch where the Raiders will play five of their next six contests at home inside the Nutter Center.
