
Raiders face final regular season road contest of 2020-2021

The Wright State women's basketball team hits the road for the final time during the regular season, as the Raiders take the short trip to Northern Kentucky for a pair of weekend matchups. The Raiders and Norse will face off Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.

Wright State is coming off a weekend sweep of Milwaukee on February 5 and 6. Friday saw the Raiders defeat the Panthers 67-58, handing Milwaukee just its fourth loss of the season. Emani Jefferson's jump shot two minutes into the contest gave Wright State its momentum for the quarter, as the Raiders went on a 12-2 run to outscore the Panthers 22-14 at the end of the first quarter. The third quarter saw the Raiders record a 10-0 run over the Panthers. Angel Baker's jump shot with 4:55 left to play gave Wright State the final advantage. Wright State never trailed in the contest.
Saturday was a back-and-forth battle that saw Wright State walk away 56-49 victors. Wright State struck first as Jada Wright's layup just 30 seconds into the contest gave the Raiders a 2-0 lead before Milwaukee answered by way of a Megan Walstad layup. The second quarter saw nearly two minutes of scoreless action from both sides before Tyler Frierson's free throw gave Wright State a 19-18 advantage. Milwaukee's 8-5 run over the final four minutes of the half gave the Panthers a 26-23 advantage heading into halftime. The third quarter proved to be the difference maker as Wright State held Milwaukee to just eight points over the 10 minute period.
Following their sweep of Milwaukee, the Raiders are currently in first place in the Horizon League standings and Championship seeding. The 2021 Horizon League Championship will see the top four teams in the regular season earn a bye into the quarterfinals and host a home game on Tuesday, March 2, with the winners advancing to the semifinals on March 8 at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum. The Horizon League Championship is set for March 9 at 12 p.m. on ESPNU. All other rounds will be on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
- Northern Kentucky's Lindsey Duvall averaged 18.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game against Green Bay, registering back-to-back double-doubles for the second time this year. She registered 18 points and 11 rebounds in Friday's contest, then followed with 19 points and 11 boards in game two.
- The Norse return quite a bit of experience, losing only three players from last year's squad. NKU welcomes back approximately 76 percent of its minutes played and 73 percent of its scoring. Junior guard Ally Niece, who is coming off a sophomore campaign in which she was named to both the all-tournament and all-league second teams, earned a spot on the All-Horizon League Preseason First Team.
- After finishing the 2019-20 season with an overall record of 20-12 (12-6 in HL), the Norse were picked fourth, receiving 105 total votes. NKU defeated both Detroit Mercy and Milwaukee in the opening two rounds of the Horizon League Championship last season. The Norse held two leads in the final minute, but ultimately fell short of Green Bay by one point in the semifinals.
