The Wright State women's soccer team tallied its first victory of the 2021 spring season Wednesday morning, as the Raiders defeated Detroit Mercy 2-1 at Wall2Wall Sports Complex.
With the win, Wright State improves to 1-1-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the Horizon League, while Detroit Mercy drops to 1-1-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.
Wright State was first to score in the 13th minute as
Rylee Clark put the hosts up 1-0. The Raiders would keep the momentum going to tally their second goal of the contest by way of
Josie Krupp who connected on a through ball from
Olga Massombo in the 30th minute, which proved to be the game-winner. Detroit Mercy cut Wright State's lead in the 57
th minute as Erica Toupin's kick from midfield was lifted over keep
Jessika Seward who came out to challenge the attack.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Detroit Mercy out-shout Wright State, 14-9, with eight attempts going on goal (six for Wright State). Both teams had six shots in the opening 45 minutes of play.
- The Titans also found an advantage in corner kicks as the Raiders recorded just three to the Titans six.
- In goal, Jessica Seward tallied six saves compared to that of Detroit Mercy's Marisa Silver who made four.
- Rylee Clark finished with a team-high four shots (three on goal), while Brittney Petrosky had three shots (one on goal). Lena Jenssen and while Josie Krupp each tallied one shot (one on goal), while Krupp's would also be a game-winner.
