The Wright State men's soccer tallied its second consecutive victory, downing Cleveland State 2-1 Monday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Raiders snapped a two-game winning streak for the Vikings.
With the win, the Raiders improve to 2-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the Horizon League, while Cleveland State drops to 2-2-0 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play. Wright State gets set to hit the road and face off against Milwaukee on Sunday afternoon.
Cleveland State's Jannis Schmidt tallied the Vikings only goal of the contest in the 20th minute before Wright State's
Joe Kouadio recorded his third goal in two games on a cross from
Brayden McNitt in the 22nd minute. The first half saw the Raiders tally six shots to the Vikings one, while also finding the advantage in corner kicks 3-1.
Wright State found the advantage in the 49th minute as
Alex Hummel tallied his first goal of the season – a game winner, as he headed the ball into the bottom right corner of the net off a
Presten Manthey corner kick. Cleveland State applied pressure with three shots on target over the final seven minutes of play but were unable to convert.
The match featured four yellow cards, three coming in the second half.
