Top seeded Raiders advance to Indianapolis with Quarterfinal win

The No. 1-seeded Wright State women's basketball team is headed to Indianapolis for the Horizon League Championship Semifinals after defeating No. 8-seeded Northern Kentucky 74-56 in the quarterfinals, Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, Wright State improves to 16-7 overall and 15-5 in conference play, while Northern Kentucky finishes the season 8-11 overall, 7-5 in HL action. The Raiders will now face the lowest remaining seed on Monday, March 8 inside Indiana Farmer's Coliseum.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair that saw two different lead changes and the contest tied at 11-all with just two minutes remaining. Wright State would use a 12-0 run over the final two minutes of the first quarter and start of the second to find the advantage and held Northern Kentucky to just nine points in the second quarter. The Raiders held NKU to just 7.7 percent shooting for the second quarter, while shooting 57.1 percent themselves.

Coming out of halftime, Northern Kentucky looked to find the advantage as they tallied 20 points to the Raiders' 21 in the third quarter but Wright State found the advantage in the fourth quarter tallying 21 points to the Norse's 16 and shooing 80 percent from the floor in the quarter.

Angel Baker tallied a game-high 23 points for the Raiders – her seventh 20-plus point outing this season. Emani Jefferson added 12 points for her 13th double-figure outing and fourth consecutive while Tyler Frierson and Shamarre Hale each added eight points, respectively.  

Baker finished the contest shooting 10-for-18 from the field, 3-for-7 from the line and recorded a team-high four assists. Jefferson went 4-for-7 from the field, 4-for-6 from the line while pulling down a game-leading nine rebounds and three steals. Frierson finished the contest 3-for-4 from the floor while pulling down seven rebounds. Hale was a perfect 4-for-4 shooting on the afternoon.

Wright State finished the contest shooting 56.6 percent from the floor, including 80.0 percent for the fourth quarter. Northern Kentucky finished the afternoon shooting just 28.3 percent from the floor, while connecting on five three-point shots to Wright State's four. The Raiders tallied 42 points in the paint to the Norse's 14. Notably, Wright State's bench added 22 points to NKU's eight.

Wright State won the battle on the boards for the 21st consecutive time this season, out rebounding NKU 39-27 overall. Wright State won the defensive battle on the boards, pulling down 38 rebounds to Northern Kentucky's 16. The offensive side saw both teams pull down 11.
