Raiders remain second; all five players inside Top 15 entering final round

The Wright State golf team remains in second place overall as a team after two rounds of the 2021 Horizon League Championship in West Lafayette, Indiana. Additionally, all five Raiders remain inside the top 15 on the individual leaderboard, led by Mikkel Mathiesen in a tie for fourth individually.

The Raiders were seven-over on Monday with a team round of 295 and are now 11-over overall after 36 holes. Oakland remains the team leaders and enter Tuesday's final round at six-over as a team. Wright State is 14 shots ahead of third-place Cleveland State.

Mathiesen was two-over on Monday and sits in a tie for fourth at even par overall after 36 holes. He opened his second round with back-to-back birdies, but only had one more birdie on the day on the way to his 74. Austin Schoonmaker had the Wright State low round of the day, carding a two-under 70 to move up to a tie for sixth overall at plus-one. Schoonmaker tallied three of his four birdies on the front nine to get out to the hot start.

Three Raiders – Tyler Goecke, Bryce Haney and Cameron Willis – are all tied for 12th at six-over heading into Tuesday's final round. Goecke carded a three-over 75, while Haney tallied a four-over 76 and Willis shot a five-over 77 on Monday.

As a team, Wright State has now carded 108 pars through two rounds, two off Oakland's leading 110 pars. The Raiders' 28 birdies through 36 holes is two off of Oakland's 30 atop the team high mark. Â

Oakland's Thomas Giroux remains the individual leader, sitting at four-under overall, while the Golden Grizzlies also have Chris Handy (tied for sixth) and Colin Sikkenga (tied for eighth) inside the top 10 to give them the slight edge over the Raiders on the team leaderboard entering the final round.
