CHESTERTON, IN – The Wright State golf team defended its team title and won its second straight tournament on Tuesday afternoon at the Valpo Fall Invitational, as the Raiders used a late push over the final nine holes for a one-shot team win over host Valparaiso.
 
In addition, Mikkel Mathiesen became the third different Raider in as many tournaments to take home the individual title, moving up two spots in the final round on the way to a five-under overall 211. Mathiesen joins Tyler Goecke and Cole Corder as individual winners this fall.
 
On the team side, Wright State opened Tuesday's final round four shots ahead of the field but the Raiders found themselves seven shots back after 12 holes at Sand Creek Country Club. The final tally on the late charge was a nine-under team score over the final nine holes on the way to the one-shot win.
 
Mathiesen opened the tournament with rounds of 72 and 70 on Monday before the three-under 69 in the final round to bring home individual honors, while Goecke and Bryce Haney each finished tied for fourth at two-under overall. Haney carded back-to-back rounds of 71 on Monday before tallying a 72 on Tuesday, while Goecke opened with a 69 in the first round, followed by a 73 and a final round 72.
 
Corder ended the tournament one shot back at one-under in sixth, carding back-to-back rounds of 71 before a final round 73 on Tuesday, while Davis Root finished 15th overall at six-over, opening with a round of 75 before ending Monday with a round of 73 and turning in a 74 on Tuesday.  Playing as an individual, Andrew Flynn finished tied for 22nd at 12-over after rounds of 75, 76 and 77.
 
Wright State will now have some much-earned time off, next hitting the road to compete in the Georgia State Invitational on October 11 and 12 in the Atlanta area. The Raiders then close out their fall schedule on October 18 and 19 at the Flyer Invitational at NCR South.
