GREEN BAY – The Wright State women's soccer team battled through 110 minutes on Thursday night, but was unable to find the back of the net in a scoreless, double overtime draw at Green Bay in Horizon League action.
Wright State (2-5-3, 0-1-2 HL) has now played extra time in four of its 10 total matches, with all going to double overtime and three ending in ties. The lone non-tie double OT contest this season for the Raiders was the season-opener back on August 19 that saw Wright State come away with a 2-1 win.
On Thursday, the Raiders were outshot by Green Bay (3-1-3, 0-1-2 HL) by a 12-10 margin, while Wright State put five shots on frame and the Phoenix had six on frame. The Raiders were more aggressive for the second half of the night, tallying eight of their shots in the second half or the extra time after Green Bay recorded seven first half shots.
Olga Massombo finished with a team-leading three shots, while
Lena Jenssen and
Maddie Mitchell each tallied two shots. Both of Jenssen's attempts were on frame, while three other Raiders all had one shot. On the other end,
Erin Baker recorded six saves, including one in the first overtime.
McKayla Kertscher finished with a match-high five shots for Green Bay, who also saw three shots from Emily Murphy. Phoenix keeper Annie Mason turned away five shots on the night.
Wright State returns to action on Sunday afternoon at home, as the Raiders welcome IUPUI to Alumni Field. Match time is slated for 1 p.m. and will feature a koozie giveaway prior to kickoff.
