Early goals lead to Sunday home win for Women's Soccer

DAYTON – The Wright State women's soccer team used a pair of early goals on the way to a 2-1 Horizon League home win over visiting IUPUI on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.

All three goals were scored early, beginning with Jessica Jacobs finding the back of the net in the fourth minute to give the Jaguars the quick lead. The Raiders responded, with Maddie Mitchell burying a ball off a pair of assists from the far side from Olga Massombo and Destiny Johnson to tie the match in the 10th minute. Minutes later, Johnson delivered what turned out to be the game-winner in the 16th minute as she intercepted a clear and beat the IUPUI keeper.

Wright State (3-5-3, 1-1-2 HL) finished with a 13-8 overall shot advantage on IUPUI (2-7-1, 1-2 HL), while the Raiders put seven shots on frame to the Jaguars' five. Wright State had four corner kick opportunities, including three in the first half, while IUPUI had three such chances.

Lauren Borchert finished with a match-leading four shots, including a pair on goal, while Johnson and Massombo each added two shots. On the other end, Jessika Seward tallied four saves, turning away a pair in each half. Renae Blevins recorded three of IUPUI's eight shots, all of which ended on frame, while Jaguar keeper AP Woodall finished with five saves in the loss.

Wright State is back in action on Saturday with a visit to Cleveland State. First kick is slated for 7 p.m. and the match is expected to be streamed on ESPN+. The Raiders are next back at home at Alumni Field on October 7 for a meeting with Detroit Mercy.
