INDIANAPOLIS — The Wright State women's basketball team fell to IUPUI 77-62 in its return to Horizon League play on Sunday afternoon at The Jungle.
Jada Roberson led the Raiders (1-9, 0-5 HL) in the loss with a team-leading 17 points to go along with four rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
Jada Wright paced the frontcourt with a bench-high 13 points, seven rebounds, and one block.
Destyne Jackson finished just shy of her eight-straight double-digit scoring performance as she poured in nine points on 4-of-10 shooting.
IUPUI (6-5, 3-3 HL) came into the matchup leading the nation in 3-point field goal defense, with opponents shooting just 19-percent from deep. However, WSU went 8-of-19 from outside the arc, good for a 42.1% clip. Wright and
KK White knocked down a team-leading two 3-pointers apiece.
Defensively, Wright State forced 15 Jaguar turnovers and bested the home team in steals (6) and blocks (3). Wright and
Diamond Stokes were the lone Raiders to tally a steal and a block.
Despite WSU outshooting IUPUI in the opening quarter, the Jags built a 24-13 advantage, anchored by 10 free throw makes on just 11 attempts.
A 3-pointer by Jackson at the 8:18 minute mark of the second quarter minimized Wright State's deficit to 28-18, but the Jags broke the game open with a 15-0 run, making the score 43-18 in favor of IUPUI. The Raiders trailed by double-digits for the rest of the game.
WSU was at its best in the fourth quarter, outscoring IUPUI 23-13. In the final stretch, Wright and Roberson combined for 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting.
Jordan Stanley drilled a 3-pointer with 46 seconds to go in the game for her first collegiate basket.
The Jaguars, who defeated nationally-ranked Iowa in late December, had two players reach 20-plus points. Rachel McLimore had a game-best 26 points while three-time Horizon League Player of the Year Macee Williams earned a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds.
Wright State will return to the Nutter Center to host Youngstown State on Friday, January 7. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
