HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — The Wright State women's basketball team suffered a 77-59 loss to Northern Kentucky on Thursday night inside BB&T Arena.
Destyne Jackson led the Raiders (2-13, 1-9 HL) with 13 points, good for her 10th double-digit scoring performance of the season.
Jada Roberson finished close to a double-double with 10 points and seven rebounds, while
Edecia Beck tallied nine points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block.
Jada Wright paced the WSU frontcourt with team-leading marks in rebounds (8) and blocks (2).
Wright State proved to be a tough test for the Norse (12-3, 6-2), as the score was tied at 17-all after the first quarter. NKU gained a 42-35 halftime lead, but the Raiders reduced their deficit to 52-49 with 2:51 remaining in the third quarter. NKU halted the late charge by closing the period on a 7-2 run and proceeding to outscore WSU 18-8 in the fourth quarter en route to its eighth-straight victory.
Trips to the charity stripe were a difference-maker in the Horizon League matchup, with Northern Kentucky sinking 17 free throws on 26 attempts. Meanwhile, Wright State went 5-of-6 at the free throw line, its second-lowest total in attempts on the season.
The Raiders held the edge in points in the paint (34-32) and bench points (19-14).
KK White scored seven points off the bench, while
Makira Webster and
Diamond Stokes had six points apiece.
Northern Kentucky turned 17 Wright State turnovers into 24 points and added 17 second-chance points. WSU had similar success by forcing the Norse to 15 turnovers but only scored 11 points in return.
NKU's Khamari Mitchell-Steen led all scorers with 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting. Lindsey Duvall had a double-double performance with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
The Raiders will close their home-and-home series against NKU on Saturday, January 22, inside the Nutter Center. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
