Men's Basketball set for Saturday night meeting with UIC

DAYTON -Â The Wright State men's basketball team moves closer to the end of its five-game road trip with a Saturday night contest in Chicago against UIC. The Raiders are coming off of a double-digit victory at IUPUI on Thursday, while UIC fell at home against Northern Kentucky in overtime. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. ET from Credit Union 1 Arena.
Fans can follow the action several ways - via live stats, by watching on ESPN+ or by tuning in on WONE 980 AM. Chris Collins and Jim Brown will have all the play-by-play on the radio.

Wright State saw nine players find the scoring column as Grant Basile turned in a game-high 20 points for the Raiders took care of IUPUI 73-45 on Thursday night. Wright State closed the first half on a 22-3 scoring run over the final seven and a half minutes to take a 19-point advantage into the locker room before cementing the night by scoring 14 of the first 18 points over a seven-minute stretch to begin the second half. Combined across the 14-plus minutes of game action over the two halves, the Raiders shot a combined 14-of-19, while holding IUPUI (1-16, 0-7 HL) to 3-of-15 shooting and seven turnovers. Basile finished with 20-plus points for the third consecutive contest, his fourth such effort in the last five games, while doing the bulk of his work in the first half, where he had all but three of his points. CJ Wilbourn was the only other Raider in double figures, scoring nine second half points to finish with 11 points on the night.
FLAMING HOT
UIC is 7-9 overall this season with a 3-4 Horizon League record, and had won three straight contests before falling in overtime to Northern Kentucky on Thursday night. This is the second meeting this season, with Wright State winning 90-72 inside the Nutter Center on January 6 behind Tanner Holden's then-season high 26 points. Grant Basile added 21 points and Trey Calvin had 19 in the win. Wright State and UIC have previously met 64 times entering Saturday, with the Raiders holding a 34-30 all-time advantage. The first matchup came on Jan. 11, 1993, an 85-82 UIC victory, with the first Raider win coming the next month, Feb. 13, 1993 - a 96-88 win inside the Nutter Center.

UIC has only played five games in the last 34 days thanks to a COVID pause within its program that forced a pair of cancellations before the Flames' scheduled game at Northern Kentucky was scrapped due to COVID issues with NKU. Prior to falling 74-70 in overtime Thursday to Northern Kentucky, UIC had won three straight contests - all on the road - over a six-day stretch, with victories at IUPUI, Milwaukee and Green Bay. The win at Green Bay was the Flames' first win inside the Resch Center since Feb. 18, 2004. Three Flames average in double figures, led by Damaria Franklin's team-leading 17.0 points per game. Kevin Johnson ranks second with 13.4 points per contest while Zion Griffin averages 10.9 points per game. UIC is just 2-4 at home this season (with a 5-3 mark in true road games), while also having lost two home contests due to COVID cancellations. The last home win for the Flames was Dec. 19 against Northern Illinois.
ON THE VERGE
Tanner Holden is on the verge of reaching 500 career rebounds, entering Saturday's contest with 497 career rebounds. Holden is averaging 6.4 rebounds per game this season and has is averaging 6.7 rebounds/game for his career. He will become the 21st Raider to reach 500 career rebounds.
FARMER GRANT
Grant Basile tied a career-high with three made three-point baskets at Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Jan. 20 against IUPUI. The three made triples came three days shy of a year to the day from the only other time Basile had hit three three-pointers - Jan. 23, 2021, also inside Indiana Farmers Coliseum against IUPUI.
NORRIS NUGGET
Freshman Keaton Norris has passed out a career-best five assists in each of the last two games - Jan. 15 at Youngstown State and Jan. 21 at IUPUI. Norris, who also has a pair of four assist games, has had multiple assists in eight of his 18 contests played.
