DAYTON — The Wright State women's basketball team fell to Milwaukee 80-55 on Saturday afternoon inside the Nutter Center.
The Raiders (2-16, 1-12 HL), who were down to seven players, were led by
Jada Roberson, as she tallied 17 points to go along with nine rebounds, five assists, and four steals in 39 minutes.
Destyne Jackson scored a team-high 19 points, while
Diamond Stokes had six points and five rebounds.
Channing Chappell chipped in with five points, four assists, and two rebounds.
Defensively, WSU scored 18 points off 20 turnovers by Milwaukee (8-11, 7-5 HL). Roberson and Jackson each had multiple steals to pace the group. However, the Panthers shot an efficient 58-percent (30-of-56) overall and 42% (8-of-19) from 3-point range. Meanwhile, the Raiders went 33% (23-of-69) from the field and 33% (8-of-24) on 3-pointers.
The Raiders also lost the battle on the boards, 46-28. Wright State did manage to best the Panthers in offensive rebounding, 12-11, led by Roberson with a game-high six boards.
Milwaukee gained a 25-8 lead in the first quarter, but the shorthanded Raiders stormed back to tie the Horizon League contest at 33-all, with 4:21 remaining in the opening half. The Panthers closed the period on a 14-4 run to head into the break on top, 46-37.
WSU shot 7-of-11 (63%) from outside the arc in the first half, highlighted by a 4-of-6 clip in the second quarter. Five different Raiders netted a 3-pointer in the period, including a pair by Jackson and Roberson.
MKE began the third quarter on a 14-2 scoring spurt to build its advantage to 60-39 at 4:44 minute mark. WSU could not muster another comeback, trailing by 17-plus points for the rest of the way.
The Panthers had four players score in double figures, led by Miquela Santora with 19 points. Mckaela Schmelzer helped out with 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting and added a team-best five assists.
The Raiders will continue conference play on Thursday, February 3, at Cleveland State, followed by a road matchup at Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday, February 5.
