MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A two-goal performance by
Elise Canter led the Wright State women's soccer program to a 2-1 victory over Robert Morris on Thursday afternoon at the North Athletic Complex.
The Raiders improved to 7-5-3 on the season and 4-1-3 in Horizon League play, while RMU dropped to 7-4-4 overall and 1-4-2 in the conference.
Canter came into the road matchup with one goal in 14 career games but scored twice in 66 minutes of play.
Marcella Sizer tallied an assist on both of Canter's goals, while
Olga Massombo added an assist in the second half.
WSU finished ahead of the Colonials in total shots (13-12) and shots on goal (8-7), paced by the trio of Canter,
Lauren Borchert, and Massombo with four shots apiece. Goalkeeper
Jessika Seward finished six saves, good for her second-highest total of the season.
The Raiders fired off four shots and three corner kicks in the opening 15 minutes of play. WSU broke through a minute later, as Canter found the back of the net off a pass from Sizer.
The momentum swayed to Robert Morris' side following the Raider score, with the Colonials finishing the half with nine shots, including five on frame. However, Seward preserved WSU's first-half advantage with five saves in the span.
Canter netted her second goal of the conference contest ten minutes into the second half off assists by Sizer and Massombo, resulting in a 2-0 edge for the Raiders.
RMU reduced its deficit to 2-1 in the 64th minute as RMU's Kayla Veloso-Lima scored. The Wright State defense held the Colonials scoreless on just two off-target shots for the remainder of the second half.
The Raiders will host Oakland for their annual Senior Day and Pink Game on Sunday, October 16. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Alumni Field. The home finale will stream on ESPN+.
