DAYTON – The Wright State volleyball team's consecutive sets won streak ended at 26 on Friday night but the Raiders dispatched visiting Oakland in four sets Friday night in Horizon League action to run their winning streak to 13 straight matches.
Wright State (18-3, 10-0 Horizon) won the opening two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-17 before Oakland (9-14, 5-6 Horizon) won a tight, 25-23 third set. The Raiders closed the night with a 25-18 fourth set victory. To date, Oakland is the only team in the Horizon League to win a set against the Raiders, having previously won the opening set (26-24) back on September 24 in Michigan.

Lainey Stephenson passed out 54 of the Raiders' 58 assists in the win as she moved into second place in the Wright State record books for career assists, passing Lisa Dearden (1993-96) and ending the night with exactly 4,700 career assists and counting. Stephenson has one more ring to climb in the record books and is now 344 assists away from program leader Mandy Gels (1999-2002).
Megan Alders finished with a match-high 14 kills while
Taylor Bransfield added 12 kills of her own.
Callie Martin collected her ninth double-double of the season with a 12-kill, 16-dig effort while adding a pair of blocks and a service ace.
Aaliyah Byers' four blocks were a match best while
Jakyla Jackson added three kills as well.
Jenna Story collected a night-high 25 digs to anchor the defense, while
Jenny Morey finished with 15 digs and both
Sam Ott and Stephenson added 10 digs each as five Raiders finished with double-digit digs.
SET ONE
Wright State jumped ahead with 10 of the first 13 points behind multiple kills from Alders, Bransfield and Martin. Oakland chipped away throughout the set, eventually using a 5-3 run to pull to withing five at 22-17 before the Raiders ended the set with three of the final four points behind kills from Martin and
Seiler Hruska.
SET TWO
Wright State scored three of the first four points before Oakland answered back and the sides traded points in the early going. The Raiders put some distance in the scoring with a 5-0 run thanks to kills from Alders and Bransfield and a service ace from Morey to gain some cushion, later closing the set with the final four points behind kills from Byers and Martin and a pair of Oakland attacking errors.
SET THREE
The Raiders again got off to a strong start early with five of the first six points, but again Oakland responded, this time with a 9-1 run to take a 10-6 advantage. Wright State answered with a 6-1 run of its own thanks in part to a pair of kills from Ott, only to see Oakland go on a five-point run to gain separation. Three straight Raider points pulled them to within one at 20-19 but the sides traded points to the finish from there as Oakland took the close set.
SET FOUR
Back-and-forth in the opening points, Wright State took control with an 8-2 run thanks to multiple kills from both Byers and Hruska. After Oakland pulled to within two at 13-11, the Raiders rolled off six of the next seven points behind kills from Alders, Bransfield and Stephenson, later finishing the night with two of the final three points thanks to kills from Byers and Alders.
