Women’s Basketball defeats Ohio Dominican 72-42 in exhibition play

DAYTON — The Wright State women's basketball program took down Ohio Dominican 72-42 in its lone exhibition of the season on Saturday afternoon at the Nutter Center. 

Taylor Johnson-Matthews paced the Raiders with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting to go along with eight rebounds in 20 minutes of action. Isabelle Bolender and Bryce Nixon finished with nine points apiece, while Lauren Scott went 2-for-2 on 3-pointers en route to eight points. Emily Chapman had an all-around performance at point guard with five points, seven rebounds, and six assists. 

WSU shot 46 percent (24-of-52) from the field and an efficient 41% (9-of-22) from outside the arc in the exhibition victory. Five Raiders connected on 3-pointers, including a team-leading three treys on five attempts by Nixon. 

Defensively, Wright State held ODU to 28% (15-of-53) on field goals and 16% (3-of-18) on 3-point attempts. The Panthers started the game 0-for-11 from deep, failing to convert on a 3-pointer until the third quarter. 

The Raiders held a 47-to-26 edge in rebounding while also forcing 15 turnovers. Nixon highlighted the defensive pressure with a team-best four steals. 

Wright State opened the exhibition on an 8-0 run and never look back, holding its early lead for the entirety of the game. WSU managed to outscore the Panthers in each period, which included a 20-6 scoring advantage in the second quarter. 

The Raiders were at their best offensively in the fourth quarter with 25 points on 8-of-16 shooting. Catalina Ion made her presence known in the lasting minutes with six points on 3-of-4 shooting. 

Gabby Stare led ODU in the loss, as she finished close to a double-double with eight points and eight rebounds. 

The Raiders will open the regular season on November 7 at Toledo and follow with a road matchup against Bowling Green on November 14.
