CLEVELAND — The Wright State men's soccer program tallied a season-high 22 shots but could not find the back of the net, falling to No. 3 seed IUPUI 3-0 in the Horizon League Championship semifinals on Thursday evening at Krenzler Field.
The Raiders conclude their season 4-7-6 overall and 4-1-4 against conference opponents. IUPUI (7-6-6, 4-2-3 HL) will face off against tournament host Cleveland State on Saturday in the HL Championship title game.
Reece Allbaugh paced Wright State's season-best shot total with five, including four on goal in the loss. Cole Werthmiller finished with four shots, one on goal, while
Joe Kouadio added three strikes.
WSU's attack threatened to score on several occasions in the opening half with 10 shots and strikes off the crossbar by Werthmuller and
Presten Manthey. However, Jaguar goalkeeper Lucas Morefield kept the Raiders off the scoreboard with three saves.
IUPUI's Caleb Hussain reached the back of the net in the 40th minute of the opening period, resulting in a 1-0 halftime deficit for Wright State.
The Raiders continued to apply pressure with four shots over the first 10 minutes of the second half, but IUPUI increased its edge to 2-0 with a goal by Lukas Hackaa in the 60th minute. The Jaguars pulled away with their third goal in the 75th minute off the foot of Logan Finnegan.
