Three Raiders score in double figures in loss at BGSU

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — The Wright State women's basketball program fell to Bowling Green 102-72 on Monday night inside the Stroh Center. 

Three individuals scored in double figures for the Raiders (0-2) in the loss, led by Emily Chapman with 14 points. Taylor Johnson-Matthews finished with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting, while Makiya Miller notched 10 points, four assists, and three rebounds. Kacee Baumhower contributed with nine points, six rebounds, and three assists. In total, 11 Raiders found the scoring column, including four freshmen.

Wright State shot an efficient 47 percent (26-of-55) from the field and 36% (8-of-22) on 3-point attempts. However, BGSU (2-0) forced the Raiders to 21 turnovers while only giving the ball away seven times on its end. 

The Falcons had their way offensively with a 50% (41-of-81) shooting percentage, scoring 20-plus points in each quarter. The home team held substantial advantages in points in the paint (62-36) and second-chance points (16-2).

Wright State found itself down 33-17 after the opening quarter. The deficit grew to 60-35 at the halftime break despite tallying 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting in the second quarter. Chapman scored 11 of her 14 points in the opening half, converting on four of eight shot attempts. 

Bowling Green finished the half with 60 points on 24-42 shooting (57%) in addition to a 40% clip (4-of-10) from outside the arc.

BGSU carried its momentum into the second half, building its lead to 73-37 with a 15-2 run to start the third quarter. However, WSU outscored the Falcons 18-9 in the remaining seven minutes of the period, closing its deficit to 82-55. 

The Falcons held a 14-7 scoring edge in the fourth quarter, sealing a 100-67 loss for the Raiders. Notably, Athena Hocevar scored five points on 2-of-2 shooting in her first minutes of action with the Raiders. 

Wright State welcomes Ohio Christian to the Nutter Center for its home opener on Thursday, November 17. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m. on ESPN+.
