MILWAUKEE MATCHUP
Milwaukee is in the middle of a six-game losing steak following a 75-39 defeat to Northern Kentucky Wednesday night. Wright State won the first meeting back on December 30 as the Raiders trailed by 11 with just over 16 minutes to play before turning in a 20-4 run over the next seven and a half minutes to regain control. The Raiders saw double-digit scoring nights from four players led by Tanner Holden's 22 points. Trey Calvin added 14 points, Grant Basile had 12 points and Tim Finke finished with 11 points. The teams have met 67 times overall, with the Raiders holding a 36-31 lead over Milwaukee in the overall series, including wins in seven of the last eight meetings. The first meeting came back on Jan. 17, 1977 in Milwaukee, a 75-66 Panther win. The first Wright State home game was the following year - a 71-69 Raider win on Feb. 13, 1978.
PANTHER POINTS
Milwaukee is 7-18 overall and 5-11 in Horizon League play in the middle of a six-game losing streak. The Panthers are 4-7 at home to date. This is Milwaukee's second six-game losing streak of the season, having also dropped six contests from Nov. 13-Dec. 2. Friday night's contest with Wright State is part of a season-long five-game homestand for Milwaukee as the regular season winds down. The Panthers are hosting the Raiders, NKU, Green Bay, Cleveland State and Purdue Fort Wayne during this stretch before their final two regular season contests on the road.
NATIONAL ATTENTION
Tanner Holden (81% FT) has made 145 free throws on 179 total attempts, both of which lead the country through Wednesday's games. Holden's 515 total points scored is No. 5 in the country, while his 20.6 points per game average is No. 12 nationally. Grant Basile's rebound work is also among the best in the nation: ranking 22nd nationally with 215 total rebounds, No. 39 nationally in total rebounds/game average with his 8.6 boards per contest and No. 47 in the country with his 6.12 defensive rebounds/game average.
BASILE NOTCHES CAREER DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Grant Basile tallied 19 points at Green Bay on Feb. 9, pushing him over the 1,000 career point mark. Basile becomes the 36th player in program history to reach 1,000 points. He previously recorded his 500th career rebound on Feb. 4 against Detroit Mercy. Basile and teammate Tanner Holden are two of only 15 players in Wright State program history to have reached the 1,000-point and 500 rebound clubs in their careers.Â
HOMEGROWN GRANT
The Raiders are on the road this week, but Grant Basile is right at home. The Wisconsin native had around 15 of his closest friends and family in attendance as he notched 1,000 career point, and is expecting a cheering section upwards of 50 or more people Friday at Milwukee at UWM Panther Arena, just 21 miles from Pewaukee High School, where he recorded 1,049 points as a high schooler. At Pewaukee High School, Basile was a unanimous first team All-State selection and a second-team AP All State honoree. He was earned a conference Player of the Year award and was a two-time all-conference performer.
DEFENSIVE INTENSITY
Since giving up 90 points in a three-point loss at Youngstown State on Jan. 15, Wright State has held its last eight opponents to an average of 64.8 points. The Raiders holding their Green Bay to only eight points in the first 12 minutes of the second half on Feb. 9 while limiting the hosts to 62 points, the the lowest total for a Horizon League foe this season outside of IUPUI.
