Women’s Basketball tests first place Jaguars

DAYTON — The Wright State women's basketball team fell at home to IUPUI 73-60 on Thursday night inside the Nutter Center.
WSU (2-19, 1-15 HL) erased a 14-point deficit to tie the Horizon League contest at 46-all with 4:36 to go in the third quarter. However, IUPUI (17-5, 14-3 HL) outscored the Raiders 27-14 for the remainder of the game to clinch its 12th victory in a row and first place in the conference standings.
Jada Roberson continued her impressive play by tallying 18 points on 8-of-18 shooting to go along with eight rebounds, and three steals. Destyne Jackson contributed with 18 points and a season-high six rebounds, while Jada Wright had eight points and eight rebounds in 22 minutes of action. Diamond Stokes helped out defensively with a career-high three blocks.
Wright State found itself down 23-13 after the opening quarter, but went on to outscore the Jaguars 36-33 in the following two periods. IUPUI possessed a 17-11 scoring edge in the fourth and final quarter.
The Raiders shot a game-best 41-percent (27-of-66) from the field and totaled 46 points in the paint compared to 28 by IUPUI. To add, WSU turned the ball over a season-low nine times, while also dishing out nine assists in the process.
Meanwhile, the Jaguars were limited to a 38% (24-of-63) shooting percentage, including a 28% (8-of-28) mark in the second half. Despite the shooting struggles, IUPUI held a substantial advantage in offensive rebounding, 18-10, and free throw makes, 16-3. WSU committed 20 fouls, which led to 23 attempts at the charity stripe for IUPUI.
Three-time Horizon League Player of the Year Macee Williams paced the Jaguars with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Rachel McLimore poured in a game-leading 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting.
The Raiders will return to play on Saturday, February 12, against UIC. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. inside the Nutter Center.
