Track & Field wraps up first day at Marshall, Halsey earns PR at GVSU Big Meet

Emma Shigley's first victory of the indoor season highlighted the Wright State track and field program's opening day at the Marshall Invitational inside the Chris Cline Athletic Complex on Friday night.Â
Shigley raced to a winning time of 18:14.61 in the 5,000-meter run, besting eight competitors in the process. The Troy, Ohio native won the event comfortably, as the runner-up finished 11 seconds behind.Â
The quartet of Alicia Neumeier, Emma Carr, Alycea Ruhlen, and Kaitlyn Miller finished the distance medley in 12:55.53, good for fifth overall.
In the women's high jump, Cierra Lively tied for sixth with a clearance of 1.49 meters. Bekah Robertson also tallied points in the event with an eighth-place mark (1.49m). Tatiana Brown rounded out Raiders in the event, as she finished 12th at 1.44 meters.
Abigail Halsey and Shelby Nolan made the trip to Allendale, Mich., to race in the 5,000-meter run at the GVSU Big Meet. Halsey headlined the pair by earning sixth out of 32 competitors in the third heat of the 5K with a personal record time of 17:33.87. The PR moved her to sixth in the Raider 5K top-10 list. Nolan raced in the first heat, finishing with a time of 17:40.09.
WSU will continue action at Marshall tomorrow, with events starting at 10:30 a.m. and closing with the 4x400 relay at 3:15 p.m.
