Goecke, Gale podium in 10Ks Friday to open HL Outdoor Championships

ROCHESTER, MI — The Wright State track and field programs tallied three podium finishes on Friday, a slow first day for the Raiders at the 2026 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, led by Kaitlyn Goecke's third-place finish in the women's 10,000m to cap the opening day.

Goecke turned in a third-place finish with her time of 36:19.36 for the top Raider mark of day one, with Michael Gale finishing fourth in the men's 10,000m at 30:58.83 and teammate Eric Dando clocking a 31:26.07 mark for a 10th-place finish in the event.

Saturday action will pick up the pace with Raider entrees, with 12 track prelim races scheduled, along with several field events and the completion of the Decathlon and Heptathlon. Saturday's full slate gets underway at 9 a.m. with the final events of the Heptathlon and continues at noon with field events before full afternoon on the track beginning at 3 p.m. running into the night.

Greyson Pollock gave the Raiders their first podium finish of the weekend with his sixth-place finish in the men's javelin throw, finishing with a 46.74m mark before the distance crew of Goecke, Gale and Dando capped the day's podium visits with their strong showings in the 10,000m runs. In addition to Goecke, the women's 10,000m final saw Sydney Thompson (37:38.71) finish 16th and Carolyn Johnson (39:27.63) come in 20th, while Nathan Sheriff was the third Raider in the men's 10,000m final, finishing 16th (33:34.67).

Heidi Stammen finished 12th in the women's javelin with her 26.18m mark, while teammate Molly Spiker set a new personal-best with her 24.83m showing to finish 15th. No Raiders qualified for Sunday's finals in the 1,500m race, with Evan McPherson (15th, 3:57.14) less than three seconds off the final men's qualifying mark and Shelby Hept's 19th-place finish (4:51.89) coming in as the top finisher among six Raiders on the women's side.

The Wright State women had strong showings across the four Heptathlon events on Friday – the 100m hurdles, the 200m race, the high jump and the shot put. Ava Bosticco and Izabella Bell tied for third in the high jump with 1.54m clearances as the best finishes of the day, while Bosticco was fourth in the 200m race (26.86) and Katlyn Delgado-Heaberlin finished fourth in the 100m hurdles (15.82) as the other top marks. Katlyn Delgado-Heaberlin is currently in fourth overall with three events remaining on Saturday, with Bosticco currently sixth and Bell in seventh.
