Golf finishes fifth in opening tournament of the spring

SAVANNAH, GA – The Wright State golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the spring with a fifth place showing at the Savannah Intercollegiate as Tyler Goecke finished in a tie for fourth individually at the 16-team field.Â

The Raiders began Sunday's final round in third as a team, carding a team round of 294 to finish four-over for the tournament. As a group, Wright State carded a tournament-best 184 pars, adding 34 birdies and a pair of eagles that came back on Saturday.

Goecke carded a final round one-over 73 Sunday, tallying a pair of birdies but also notching a bogey and a double bogey on the back nine on the way to a three-under final scorecard. Davis Root was two-over on his final 18 holes to finish 12th at even for the weekend, while Mikkel Mathiesen played a final round 75 to finish in a tie for 19th at three-over. Cole Corder carded a final round 73 of his own to finish in a tie for 25th at five-over and Bryce Haney rounded out the lineup tied for 50th following a two-over 74 on Sunday to finish 12-over for the tournament.

Wright State is back in action at the Orlando Invitational to close February and roll the calendar into March, teeing off tournament action on February 28 at Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida and the Mission Inn Resort & Club.
