Women’s Basketball comes up short at Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The Wright State women's basketball team closed its regular-season road schedule with a 77-53 loss at Youngstown State on Sunday afternoon.
Destyne Jackson led the Raiders (3-21, 2-17 HL) with a team-leading 14 points, while Jada Wright finished close to a double-double with 10 points, eight rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. Jada Roberson had an all-around game with nine points, seven rebounds, six assists, and two steals.
The Raiders turned the ball over a season-low seven times, including just three times in the first half. WSU recorded eight steals and four blocks defensively, as YSU (23-4, 17-3 HL) was pestered into 14 turnovers.
WSU had its downfall in shooting, finishing 32-percent (22-of-68) from the field and 38.5% (5-of-13) at the free throw line. Meanwhile, the Penguins possessed an efficient 47.7% (31-of-65) shooting percentage and 41.4% (12-of-29) clip on 3-pointers.
Despite grabbing nine offensive boards, Wright State trailed in the rebounding battle 49-34. Three of Wright's eight total rebounds transpired on the offensive side to lead all Raiders.
After Youngstown State opened the Horizon League contest up 12-5, WSU went on a 5-0 run to cut its deficit to 12-10 at the 1:52 minute mark of the first quarter. YSU held a narrow 19-14 edge by the end of the period, as the team's exchanged blows in the final two minutes.
The Penguins used long-range shooting to build their lead in the second quarter, outscoring WSU 21-12. YSU went 4-of-10 from deep over the 10 minutes while the Raiders finished with five baskets on 18 attempts.
Wright State went 7-of-16 from the field in the third quarter, but its deficit increased to as much as 22 points. The Penguins took advantage of nine second-chance points to up their lead to 61-42 entering the final period. The 19-point margin proved too much for the Raiders to overcome, as they finished on the losing end of a 77-53 final.
Lilly Ritz paced YSU in the win with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Lexi Wagner reached double figures with 11 points, while Mady Aulbach had six assists and shot 3-of-3 from outside the arc.
The Raiders will close their regular season at home versus Detroit Mercy on February 24 and Oakland on February 26. Both games will air on ESPN+.
